The upstairs was quiet when Jeremy crept up the steps. Georgie hadn’t moved into her father’s old bedroom even though it was twice the size of hers. He didn’t judge her for it. Instead, he was just pleased that he could search the room without anyone bothering him. She and the twins would have fallen asleep long ago. He didn’t expect to find his money in the room, but he was hoping to find a clue to where Douglas might have taken it.

“Too much land,” Jeremy muttered as he quietly closed the door behind him. “You’re an accomplished man, Douglas. So what were you doing helping me?”
